Microsoft launches $1 million festive charity drive, #GivewithXbox

Microsoft has launched a new holiday charity campaign, #GivewithXbox.

For every photographic composition fans post on social media detailing what "gaming together" means to them, Microsoft will donate $5 – up to $1 million – worth of Xbox products to a selection of gaming-centric charities "who help bring gaming to everyone"; Child’s Play, Gamers Outreach, Special Effect, and Operation Supply Drop (OSD).

The event is live right now and will run until December 9th, 2018. To participate, simply use the hashtag #givewithXbox and share a photo of what gaming means to you and how it brings people together.

"Xbox is committed more than ever to gaming for everyone and making Xbox a place where everyone has fun. So, jump in with Xbox to help even more people play this holiday season," Microsoft said in a statement.

Child’s Play is a game industry charity dedicated to improving the lives of children with toys and games in our network of over 100 hospitals worldwide, while similar work is undertaken by Gamer’s Outreach, a charity organisation that provides equipment, technology, and software to help kids cope with treatment inside hospitals.

UK-based charity Special Effect puts "fun and inclusion back into the lives of people with physical disabilities by helping them to play video games", and OSD – a global, chapter-based, Veteran Support Ecosystem – was founded in 2010 with a focus on delivering “Video Game Care Packages Downrange.” As it grew and service members returned home to face various transitional challenges, however, its objective evolved to identify and address the underlying needs of these veterans and their families.
