Microsoft, via Mojang, has ceased further support for the Apple TV version of Minecraft.
The move actually came September 24, but wasn’t widely circulated until last week when it started doing the rounds over on Twitter. A splash screen from the Apple TV version informs players it will no longer be updated or supported.
It reads: “We’re grateful to the Apple TV community for their support, but we need to reallocate resources to the platforms that our players use the most.” The statement goes on to say that the version will remain playable on the devices, and all purchases will still be available – of course – there’s just not going to be anything new, tweaked, or fixed.
All purchases made in the Apple TV version for the 90 days prior to September 24 will, however, be fully refunded as “we know this experience isn’t in-line with the experience on other platforms,” as the statement says.
It’s hardly surprising to see a niche version of Minecraft be abandoned like this, but it does still make you feel bad for those for who this was the only way they had to play the game. Granted, it’s available on a few other platforms…
