It’s officially a monstrous start to the year, or at least for the UK physical charts. This week’s biggest release was Shadow of the Colossus, which dethroned Monster Hunter: World after two weeks at the top.
Monster Hunter actually dropped into third position after EA’s UFC 3 had a battling performance in its second week, dropping only 35 per cent of its week one sales to hold onto No. 2.
Back to the top though, Shadow of the Colossus is the PS4 remaster of the PS2 classic released over here in 2006. It then received a remaster in 2011 on PS3 as part of a double-pack with Ico. The new version has garnered rave reviews for the beautiful work done to update the game. Sales are up 73 per cent on the original release, GfK informs us, though the original has built a cult following ever since its release.
Call of Duty WWII has dropped out of the top 5 for the first time since its release, moving from No.3 to No.6. Otherwise things are pretty static in the top places. Mario Kart Deluxe 8 and Super Mario Odyssey both show that Switch hardware sales are ticking over by their presence at No.7 and No.8.
Price promotions boosted the Evil WIthin 2 and Assassin’s Creed Origins to No.10 and No.9 respectively.
However it was Ovewrwatch: Game of the Year Edition, jumping up by 293 per cent to No.13 that was the biggest gain. Presumably on the back of the culmination this weekend of the first section of the Overwatch League – eventually won by the London Spitfires.
Next week’s chart action will likely be dominated by the Switch, as we get both Bayonetta 2 and Overcooked: Special Edition launching on the device. While we’re back in remasters territory with classic SNES era RPG Secret of Mana coming to the PS4.
