Scandanavia's premier industry event prepares to open doors

Nordic Game 2009 starts tomorrow

Tomorrow will see the opening of Sweden’s Nordic Game 2009 conference, which runs until 20th May 2009.

Taking place in the town of Malmø, the event brings together a number of key industry figures from across the globe including Suda 51 of Grasshopper, Rockstar’s Ian Bowden and Alex Evans of Media Molecule. The event also offers attendees a number of focused technology sessions from Microsoft, Qube, Geomerics, Autodesk and Sony.

The event, which also aims to give games from the region exposure on an international scale, is to be introduced by Icelandic minister of culture, Katrín Jakobsdóttir. Other speakers include Lars Gustavsson from DICE, IO Interactive’s Calle Lejdfors and Nathan Richardsson of Eve Online creator CCP.

Nordic Game 2009 also features a business lounge for networking and meetings, a large exhibition hall, and a careers event for students from the region.

In other news, Capcom producer Keiji Inafune has cancelled his appearance at Nordic Game 2009 because of the apparent threat of swine flu. Capcom cites company policy and Japan’s travel restrictions as reason for the retraction from the event – an issue which may also effect E3. In Inafune’s place, Team17 studio director Martyn Brown is to present a session titled ‘Digital publishing for independent studios: Myth or Reality?’.
