The Yorkshire Screen Industries hub is to receive £127,000 from the British Film Institute’s Creative Clusters Challenge Fund.
The money will help local organisations such as Game Republic, Screen Yorkshire and Sheffield Doc/Fest grow the region’s games, film and TV industries, enabling companies in the area to expand.
It will also help run a nine-month programme called ‘Creating the Production Powerhouse’, which will investigate the opportunities to improve skills, training, infrastructure and knowledge-sharing within Yorkshire and Humber. This is due to start in March.
Regional partners are matching this funding to make for a total investment of £245,000.
Yorkshire is already home to several leading games firms, such as Team17, Sumo Digital and Revolution Software.
Game Republic’s managing director Jamie Sefton: “As the longest-established and largest network dedicated to the games industry in the region, Game Republic is incredibly excited about the success of the Creative Cluster Fund bid.
