Gayming Magazine – a new outlet launched in June 2019 to “look at the video games world with a queer twist” – is launching Gayming Live, a new live event running from September 30th to October 5th, 2019.
Open to gamers and games industry professionals, the show – taking place at a pop-up shop in London, UK – will feature gayming radio shows, an industry mixer, careers advice, video game art, games writers lounge, and Ginny Lemon’s 8-bit Drag Show.
The free event will also feature an exhibition of LGBTQ+ game artists, LGBTQ+ journalist and writers lounge, plus story writers from Fusebox Games will be offering top tips and ideas on how to write for games.
“Gayming Magazine has gone from strength to strength since we launched just three months ago – exceeding our own expectations,” said founder and editor, Robin Gray. “We’re delighted to be hosting the Gayming Live event, which will take all the great elements of the Magazine and make them truly interactive.
“Gayming Live is designed to appeal to gamers, industry professionals and those looking for a career in games. This is a very exciting and unique event – and we’re looking forward to seeing everyone there!”
With aspirations to be “the go-to online resource for the LGBTQ+ video game community, providing news, reviews and stories”, Gayming Magazine hopes to be “exciting companion website to the entertainment world” that brings people together, be that through local gaymer groups or by bringing the industry closer to the community through interviews and features on LGBTQ+ companies and developers. It also hopes to work with the industry to challenge the “assumed straight” hetero-dominance of video game characters.
“For too long, the LGBTQ+ community has sat on the fringe of the video games community, carving out their own niche,” founder Gray said at the time. “We want to celebrate that niche while also working with the community and with the industry to bring the two halves closer together, ensuring LGBTQ+ people feel welcome, included and represented within the gaming world they adore so much.”
