Unity Simulation is a cloud-based simulation service that will allow game developers to better test and tweak their titles launching them. The service runs on Google Cloud and allows developers to run multiple instances of any Unity project at huge scale, allowing developers to quickly reach insights that could otherwise require months of testing.
Launched last night by the company at its Unite 2019 Copenhagen keynote. For games it concentrated on Unity Simulation’s ability to provide insight to improve your title in terms of “game balancing and player experience.”
Danny Lange, VP AI and machine learning, explained that testing in the real world was hugely limited by time and resources. Before pointing out:
“We have Unity, a virtual world, that is spatial, with physics and visual fidelity, and all the interactions you need to simulate any experience. But the scope of your simulation is currently limited to the hardware you have at hand, that is, until today.”
Illogika demoed its competitive running title, Rogue Racers, for which it utilised Unity Simulation to help with game balancing between more and less skilled players. The company ran over 22,500 simulations of games in just a matter of hours, testing for three different variables that could be used in combination to help level the playing field between skill levels. It said that Unity Simulation found the ideal combination.
Beyond the immediate gaming sphere, Unity also demoed the service with LG, using it for simulated testing on self-driving cars.
