Exclusive Developmag.com tutorial from prolific Xbox Live Arcade studio

Stainless Games offers XBLA development advice

Isle of Wight’s Stainless Games has offered an invaluable glimpse at how it produces Xbox Live Arcade games and offered up advice to those hoping to create games for Microsoft’s popular digital distribution platform.

The studio, responsible for a number of games on the service including Crystal Quest, Novadrome and some Atari Classics games, is one of the most prolific XBLA developers and offers up advice on making games for the platform in an exclusive tutorial which can be found here.

Focusing on how studios can start "applying normal AAA production values to small budget games" production director Ben Gunstone (pictured) runs through 11 key points, looking at areas as diverse as QA to content packs.

"Making games for XBLA is the same as for any other platform," he explains. "You need to create a feature set and a schedule to meet the timeline and budget that is available to you. The difference is that the time from design to going Live is so much quicker so there is less room for error. You have to be quick and you have to be right and you need to be quick and right the first time round."
