Nintendo reveals stunning sales surge

Nintendo’s net sales rose to 340,439m Yen between April and June this year, compared with last year’s figure of 130,919m Yen – a huge leap of 160 per cent. Operating income rose to 90,631m Yen, up 214.7 per cent. Recurring profits were up 302.3 per cent, while net income was up 416 per cent.

The platform holder’s successes saw full and half-year forecasts revised upwards to reflect Nintendo’s continued growth. Half-year net sales are now expected to total 640,000m Yen, up 39.1 per cent, while full-year net sales are now predicted to reach 1,400,000 Yen, up 22.8 per cent.

Nintendo attributed its software sales success to the strong performance of Pokemon Pearl and Diamond, which has sold a huge 8.76 million worldwide to date. Nintendogs, Brain Age and New Super Mario Bros were also highlights on DS. For Wii, Super Paper Mario and Mario Party 8 have each sold over a million each. Wii Sports and Wii Play also continue to perform well.
