Doctor Who is again being used as an educational vehicle, this time to encourage kids to learn how to design games.
The Doctor Who Game Maker will go live next week on September 15th (just a few days before the Timelord’s return to our TV screens on September 19th). It’s a suite of drag-and-drop tools that the BBC says will go beyond merely the ability to make cute platformers.
The Doctor Who Game Maker is designed to help you create brilliant games using a huge range of heroes, monsters and worlds visited by the Doctor,” it said. The variety of games you’ll be able to make and play is enormous. From the simple to the staggering, the only limits are your imagination and ambition.
If you’re up for making your own games you’ll find it’s much easier than you think and incredibly rewarding! Video tutorials featuring the Doctor’s Sontaran ally, Strax, will help make the build process easy-to-understand and fun and once your games are online you can challenge your friends to try them… And give theirs a whirl.”
The tool will be offered as part of the BBC’s Mixital tech portal, which also offers digital activities based around some of its other shows, such as Strictly Come Dancing and Eastenders.
