Lego games dev was last month’s most valuable studio thanks to latest Star Wars tie-in

Develop Studio Sales Chart: The Force is strong with TT Games in July

UK studio TT Games returns to the top spot in our monthly ranking of the world’s best studios after the success of Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

The developer previously reached No.1 in January thanks to Lego Marvel Avengers. With new releases thin on the ground in recent weeks, there was little in the way of competition for TT Games, with ongoing sales of Overwatch putting Blizzard at No.2.

Another studio making a return to the Top Ten included GTA V dev Rockstar North at No.5, with the continued success of Uncharted 4 and FIFA 16 putting Naughty Dog and EA Canada at No.3 and 4 respectively.

The worldwide phenomenon that is Pokémon Go has also seen Japanese studio Game Freak rocket from No.22 to No.7 as series fans indulge in Pokémon Alpha Ruby and Omega Sapphire. In fact, the good weather has clearly seen gamers dust of their 3DS, with Nintendo’s Tomodachi Life and Capcom’s Monster Hunters Generations putting their developers back in the Top 10.

As always, the studios are measured by UK revenue at retail, with data provided by GfK Chart-Track. Digital sales are not included in the calculations, nor are retail transactions made outside the UK.

The full Top Ten for July 2016 was as follows:

  • Traveller’s Tales
  • Blizzard Entertainment
  • Naughty Dog
  • EA Canada
  • Rockstar North
  • ID Software
  • Game Freak
  • Capcom
  • Nintendo
  • Digital Illusions
