But the Lego Marvel Avengers studio kicks off the New Year at No.2 in our monthly round-up of most successful studios

Develop Studio Sales Chart: TT Games miss out on top spot in January

Traveller’s Tales were unable to topple Treyarch as the most lucrative games developer of January 2016, despite the success of new release Lego Marvel Avengers.

The UK studio had to settle for No.2 in our monthly breakdown of the successful developers, based on data provided by Chart-Track. TT Games was a close second behind Treyarch, with the latest Lego title just £500,000 behind sales of Call of Duty.

However, the money made by Call of Duty: Black Ops III put Treyarch firmly at the top, overtaking last month’s winner and Star Wars Battlefront dev EA DICE, which slipped to No.4 behind FIFA studio EA Canada.

Elsewhere the rest of the Top 10 features familiar names, thanks to the ongoing sales of Grand Theft Auto V, Fallout 4, Rainbow Six: Siege, Just Cause 3 and Splatoon.

The full top ten for January 2016 was as follows:

  1. Treyarch
  2. Traveller’s Tales
  3. EA Canada
  4. EA DICE
  5. Rockstar North
  6. Ubisoft Montreal
  7. Avalanche Studios
  8. Bethesda
  9. Nintendo
  10. Yuke’s/Visual Concepts

The studios are measured by UK revenue at retail, with data provided by GfK Chart-Track.

Digital sales are not included in the calculations, nor are retail transactions made outside the UK.
