Microsoft veteran Chris Lee is the new man in charge of FPS titles at Halo developer 343 Industries.
The move comes following the recent departure of studio head of strategy games Dan Ayoub, who had been working on the series since Halo: Reach back in 2009. He has been moved over to Microsoft’s Mixed Reality team. Bonnie Ross continues to be the head of the entire studio.
"Over the years, Dan has helped us work with amazing studios and partners from literally every corner of the globe,” a statement said. They, like us are going to miss him, and Dan wanted us to express his thanks to both those partners, and to all the Halo fans and community who’ve been the fuel and fire that have ignited his passion and ambition, throughout the years."
Lee was the executive producer on Halo 5: Guardians, and also senior lead producer on Halo 4.
In other Halo news, 343 community manager Brian Jarrad has confirmed that while the studio will feature in Microsoft’s E3 press conference next month, it won’t have any news relating to the next major entry in the [Halo] franchise”. In other words, don’t expect Halo 6.
What is promised, however, is a little something” for Halo fans in 2017. Speculation points to a possible PC release for either Halo 5 or perhaps the Master Chief Collection. Note, however, that the latter still hasn’t ironed out all its console wrinkles, which perhaps makes a platform jump unlikely.
What it won’t be, however, is an Anniversary release for Halo 3. While both Halo: Combat Evolved and Halo 2 have both enjoyed the remaster treatment, Jarrard has ruled out a similar reworking for Halo 3, confirming that the game is not on the cards. Many fans had felt the time may be approaching for such a release as 2017 marks the popular shooter’s 10 year anniversary.
There’s plenty of snippets to pick out on Jarrard’s Reddit feed.
