EGX moving to Birmingham NEC from next year

Next year’s EGX will take place outside of London for the first time in the event’s history.

Then titled Eurogamer Expo, the event first took place in 2008 at the Old Truman Brewery before moving to Old Billingsgate Market and Leeds’ Royal Armouries Museumin 2009, followed by its recent home at Earls Court. However, the planned demolition of Earls Court has now led to the event abandoning London altogether.

EGX 2015 will take place at the in-development Resorts World Birmingham at the Birmingham NEC. Ticket prizes are being frozen at this year’s rates and deals are being struck with travel companies for discounted train and bus journeys for visitors.

The industry has been anticipating this announcement for some weeks now.

EGX has experienced amazing growth during our four years at Earl’s Court,” Gamer Network boss and co-founder Rupert Loman said. And while we are sad to leave, we see the move to the NEC not only as a real opportunity to continue its success, but also to evolve and improve the experience we offer both attendees and exhibitors.”

EGX 2015 will take place on September 24th. Last week’s event attracted a record crowd of 75,000 visitors across four days.

Endemol earlier this month announced new London games event Legends of Gaming Live, which will take place between September 3rd and September 6th 2015 at Alexandra Palace, North London.
