New studio ""Probably won't have much to announce in the near future as we hire, build our studio, buy a coffee machine and build Ikea furniture."

Alex Hutchinson leaves Ubisoft, forms Typhoon Studios

Alex Hutchinson, a long-term veteran of Ubisoft Montreal who’s spent the last seven years as a creative director at the company, has taken to Twitter to announce that he’s departed the publisher and is forming a new studio, Typhoon Studios.

Hutchinson was the creative director for several of Ubisoft Montreal’s AAA titles, including Far Cry 4 and Assassin’s Creed 3. Before this, he worked as a lead designer at EA, working on titles like Spore and The Sims 2.

"Extremely proud of all we achieved on Far Cry and Assassins but very excited to build something new," he wrote in his announcement across a series of tweets. "Probably won’t have much to announce in the near future as we hire, build our studio, buy a coffee machine and build Ikea furniture but we are hard at work imagining a brand new world to inflict on all of you, so stay tuned."

He also mentioned that joining the team would be Reid Schneider, who co-founded the studio and is now taking the role of executive producer.

The Typhoon Studios website doesn’t currently offer up a lot of information, containing just a contact form.
