Lay offs hit Perfect World Entertainment's community team, but development won't be affected

Perfect World Entertainment lay off “fewer than 30” employees

Perfect World Entertainment has become the latest games company to shed some jobs after Christmas, confirming that they’ve laid off "fewer than 30" employees.

Perfect World Entertainment confirmed the job losses to VentureBeat, claiming the roles they’ve cut were to the community management team on its MMO Star Trek Online, and that it won’t have any impact on the development of the game.

Star Trek online was released for PC in 2010, but launched for consoles just last year, letting an ever increasing amount of people control their own Starfleet spaceship. The free-to-play MMO has made an impact on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, with console players topping 1.1 million in October.

In a statement given to VentureBeat, a spokesperson for Perfect World Entertainment said: “This week, Perfect World Entertainment did experience a reduction in staff of under 30 employees. Perfect World employs thousands of people from all over the world and decisions like this are always difficult. However, we are incredibly grateful for the contributions of those individuals impacted and will do our best to help each of them through this transition. This reduction in workforce will not impact any of the games published by Perfect World Entertainment.”
