North African studio comprised of 48 devs worked on Rayman series, plus Child of Light and Valiant Hearts

Ubisoft Casablanca to close after almost two decades

Ubisoft is to shutter its Casablanca studio, which has worked on some of the company’s biggest franchises across its 18-year history.

The Moroccan outlet opened in 1998 and went on to contribute to games including Child of Light and Valiant Hearts, as well as multiple console and mobile Rayman instalments, such as Adventures, Legends and Fiesta Run, becoming well-regarded for its specialism in portable development.

"Ubisoft Casablanca has been part of Ubisoft for 18 years, and contributed to a lot of memorable games over the years, especially on portable consoles," Ubisoft Mobile executive director Jean-Michel Detoc commented.

"Unfortunately, as the video game market evolved in the past few years, we didn’t find a sustainable formula for the studio within our broader network. We thank the Casablanca team for their hard work throughout the years."

The studio was home to 48 developers. Ubisoft confirmed that it would offer support and explore possible transfers for affected staff.

Ubisoft Casablanca will officially cease operation on Monday, June 13th.
