The UK Game of the Show returns to GDC for its sixth outing

GDC is the best place to discover upcoming indie games, and this year’s event sees the return of the UK Game of the Show at GDC, sponsored by MCV’s indie games publisher of the year, Curve Digital.

The trophy will be awarded to the best UK developed, but as yet unreleased, game being shown at the expo. This will be the sixth year of the award, and an outstanding opportunity to shine a spotlight on the best of the UK’s development talent in front of a global audience.

The UK Game of the Show Award has a reputation for excellence, with previous winners including PaperSeven’s Blackwood Crossing, The Escapists, developed by Mouldy Toof, Lost Words from Sketchbook games and 2017 GDC winner, Lazarus by Spilt Milk Studios.

No application is necessary for companies to be up for the award. Anonymous judges will be making their way around the halls throughout Wednesday to assess the top British development talent on display, before the winner is announced at the UK industry drinks taking place at the B Bar, Moscone Centre on the evening of Wednesday 21 March. The winner will take away a bespoke trophy, presented by Curve Digital’s Stuart Dinsey, and will secure a special feature in MCV, the exclusive media partner for the award.

"Dreams can still come true for British games developers, as proven by Brighton’s Runner Duck last year when Bomber Crew went to number one on Steam,” said Curve Digital chairman Stuart Dinsey. He continued, “The UK is a hotbed of independent development talent and we are delighted to be supporting UKIE’s recognition of the very best UK developed game on show at GDC”.

Ukie CEO Jo Twist said ‘There is always a buzz around the announcement of the UK game of the show at such a prestigious show as GDC. It is a great accolade for the winner but also a great opportunity for the entire UK development community to showcase their world leading creativity’.
