PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds now has the highest peak player count out of every game on Steam that isn’t published by Valve.
PUBG has slipped into third place on the most played of all time list, leapfrogging Fallout 4’s peak player count of 481,291 just two weeks after it vaulted into fourth place, beating out Grand Theft Auto V’s 360,761 peak count.
Currently, the peak player count for PUBG sits at 481,291 with only Valve’s monolithic competitive games Dota 2 and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive ahead of it. However, it’s unlikely to ever reach these lofty heights. It would need to double in concurrent players to hit Counter-Strike:Global Offensive’s peak of 850,485 and then go further than that for Dota 2’s 1,291,328 players.

However, it’s a massive achievement for a game that launched mostly out of nowhere and has gone from strength to strength since then. Later this year, the game is launching on Xbox One which will grow the community even further.
At the moment, it’s the hottest game of 2017, dominating Steam’s most played and most bought charts and is often found in the top three most popular games on Twitch, with hundreds of thousands of players watching and playing the game every day.
Recently, developers Bluehole have attracted criticism for a variety of high profile bans, which has seen a popular streamer banned in front of 22,000 viewers and an alleged stream sniper, who swore to PCGN that he wasn’t stream sniping, picking up a ban. That last drama is still unfolding.
