The game director for Blizzard RPG Diablo III has left the company after more than a decade.
Jay Wilson joined Blizzard in January 2006, having previously worked at Relic Entertianment as a designer on franchises including Company of Heroes, Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War and Homeworld.
He announced on Twitter that he would be leaving the games industry to seek out a career in writing, which he described as his “original passion”.
“It’s what I was doing when I fell into this job, and I’ve always wanted to return to it,” Wilson said.
He added: “I will dearly miss my friends at Blizzard. They’ve been the best, most dedicated, most passionate group of people I’ve ever met.”
Wilson said he would be returning to the Pacific Northwest following his departure, and hinted that his upcoming novel would likely fit into the “sci-fi, fantasy and urban fantasy” genres.
Sad to say after 10 of the best years of my life this will be my last week at Blizzard, and in the games industry.
