Corsair moves into livestreaming with acquisition of Elgato gaming

PC outfit Corsair has planted a flag in the livestreaming business by acquiring Elgato Gaming, the producers of the Elgato capture cards, and the Elgato streaming deck.

Elgato’s products are synonymous with streaming and the deal, for an undisclosed sum, puts Corsair in an ideal location to explore the industry further. Corsair already have a presence in the area due to their hardware business, but this should help them increase their profile in the space, something that worked well for Elgato, who grew an entire business out of the success of their early capture technology.

In fact, Elgato got so successful that they expanded into equipment for connected home technology, and this business will continue for the company, although it will be rebranded as Eve Systems going forwards.

It’s not yet known whether Corsair will absorb the Elgato brand into its own offerings or keep the brand-name, but in the meantime Elgato’s range of products, including the aforementioned set-up deck and a pop-up green screen, will remain on sale bearing the Elgato name.
