Google and Warner Bros. team up for Wonder Women coding project

As Wonder Woman enters cinemas for the first time this summer, Google have teamed up with DC Universe owners Warner Bros. to present a special coding competition.

The Google Play ‘Made with Code’ is an initiative to get more women in to coding and this partnership with the Wonder Woman character is hoping to get more people involved. "Wonder Woman’s strength is more relevant today than ever, especially in the technology space, since girls are less likely than boys to be encouraged to pursue computer science and only 22 percent of gaming developers are women," said Google’s Mathilde Cohen Solal, writing for the Google Play Blog.

Coders can write three scenes from the movie using Made with Code’s interactive toolkit, which is hoped will introduce coding technique and basic skills to young women.

Along with this, the partnership with Warner Bros. is also offering the chance for 100 teen girls to a screening of the movie, the chance to play the now updated DC Legends game and finish the coding they started in the competition.

Mathilde Cohen Solal continues: "We hope Wonder Woman’s message of empowerment inspires teen girls, and women, to build confidence in pursuing careers in computer science, engineering, gaming—or whatever their dreams may be."
