Gfinity has seen a 64 per cent growth in revenue in the last financial year.
Gfinity revealed their own figures after a Newzoo report revealed that global esports revenue was expected to hit $905.6m (£653.2m) in 2018, growing to $1.65b (£1.19b) by 2021.
Gfinity’s own growth, as stated above, was 64 per cent in the last financial year, with a 40 per cent audience growth. This outperforms global figures, although some of this could be to do with Gfinity’s Elite Series gaining traction throughout 2017, but also going some way to show that the UK esports scene is catching up with bigger markets in North America and Asia.
The Elite Series launched in March 2017 and grew 40% between season 1 and season 2, which followed closely.
“Newzoo’s revenue projections paint a healthy picture of a burgeoning cultural scene and an opportunity for savvy investors and commercial partners to be a part of a growing entertainment phenomenon," said Gfinity’s CEO Neville Upton.
"The increasing number of ‘occasional viewers’ highlights that esports is now mainstream and it’s only going to get bigger over the next five years as more top teams and superstars emerge. It’s the responsibility of companies like Gfinity to ensure that esports tournaments are as exciting and entertaining as the top sport and music events to maintain this mainstream growth.”
