The more things change, the more they stay the same. EA’s Burnout Paradise Remastered claimed the No.1 spot this week, just as the original did all the way back at its launch in 2008.
The remaster has been critically acclaimed, and this writer definitely played too much of it this snowy Sunday afternoon. Burnout 3: Takedown, released in 2004, was the franchises biggest ever boxed release, but with the physical market in decline everyone at EA should feel pretty happy with what’s been achieved here. Which is car crashes in 4K resolution.
Nintendo’s Kirby Star Allies is a distant No.2, but has the honour of being the most successful boxed launch for a Kirby title in the franchise’s 19 game history.
Between them, EA and Nintendo have carved up the charts, with three of the Top Ten EA titles and four coming from Nintendo.
These two new releases push FIFA 18 down to No.3, and Grand Theft Auto V to No4, with Grand Theft Auto V dropping sales by 44 per cent, potentially because everyone bought it last week when it took the No.1 spot.
Aside from this, it’s very much business as usual in the charts, despite EA Sports UFC 3 and Fallout 4 sneaking in to claim No.8 and No.9 respectively. The Top Ten for the week ending 18 March, is below. (data courtesy of GfK/Ukie)
