Coaching platform Gamer Sensei raises $4m in funding round

Esports coaching outfit Gamer Sensei has raised $4m in a new funding round.

Gamer Sensei is a service that tries to link up coaches, often professional competitors, with players in a range of competitive games for one-on-one virtual lessons to help them improve. They now offer coaching in Overwatch, League of Legends, Dota 2, Hearthstone, Gwent and several more games.

As esports are getting more and more popular, it seems services on the fringes of esports are getting a rise too, as this $4m funding round follows a $2.5m seed round, both led by Accomplice and Advancit Capital. For the $4m round, the company was joined by Origin Ventures, CRCM Ventures and Kiwi Ventures and several other companies including aXiomatic, Abstract Ventures, Subversive Capital.

The funding has been earmarked for “continued growth” at the company’s headquarters in Boston.

“The esports industry is hotter than ever as evidenced by the growing number of traditional sports groups and team owners – from the NBA to the NFL – looking to get in on the action,” says Rohan Gopaldas, CEO of Gamer Sensei, in a press release.

“Gamer Sensei is front and center with a unique offering that benefits both players and coaches, and this latest investment will allow us continue to build and evolve the platform to implement new features and forge new partnerships.”
