Maxis hands over SimCity franchise

Following

yesterday’s news

that EA is working on a fifth outing for the SimCity series, dubbed SimCity Societies, news has emerged that long-term developer Maxis will not be involved in the project,

CVG

reports.

Instead, Caesar IV developer Tilted Mill is taking the helm as the series heads in what is being dubbed a ‘new direction’.

An official statement from the game’s president and director of development Chris Beatrice reads: I do not want to mislead anyone: This SimCity is not a realistic urban simulation, which I understand to many, represents the heart of what SimCity is.

No one is blind to that. And if you’re just completely turned off, even angered by the mere notion of any game called SimCity that is not a detailed, realistic urban simulator, I absolutely understand that viewpoint, and absolutely respect it."

Pictures from yesterday’s Games for Windows mag in the US depict a colourful 3D world boasting a theme park.
