Ubisoft announced a heap of changes for Rainbow Six’s esports tournament, the Rainbow Six Pro League, on Wednesday.
First, the announcement that the Rainbow Six Pro League finals for Season 2 of Year 2 will occur at the ESL Arena in GamesCom. This will probably also comprise a reveal for the three Season 3 operators, who are long-awaited after Ubisoft Montreal chose to skip new content for Season 2 to focus on squashing bugs and improving the experience of the game for existing and new players.
The Season 3 content is expected to bring three new operators, one from Poland and 2 from Hong Kong, with a map based in Hong Kong.
The finals will be center stage, taking place on August 25-26 and running alongside Gamescom proper with the support of ESL, with the reveal usually occurring during a break occurring shortly before the finals.
After that final, the Pro League will be kicking off qualifiers in the Asia-Pacific region for Season 3 in September, with players competing in qualifers across Japan, South Korea, Southeast Asia and Australia/New Zealand. These players will then compete in Sydney on the 21-22 October, with the winners being invited to the Global Pro League Season 3 Final in São Paulo, November 17–19.
For season 4, we’ll see the return of the Rainbow Six Invitational, which will take place in the developer’s home city of Montreal, as players compete for a $500,000 prize. The top teams from the European, Latin American, North American and Asia-Pacific regions will be brought in to Montreal to compete on the PC version of the game.
This will bring the prize pool for Rainbow Six Siege’s Pro League to $1,250,000 for Year 2.
