About

Hauser on Tour

Cellist Stjepan Hauser is best known as half of the international classical crossover sensation 2Cellos, alongside Luka Sulic. He has performed in over 40 countries and has played in some of the most important venues on the planet, from the Amsterdam Concertgebouw to Buckingham Palace. As a solo classical cellist, Hauser has competed in (often winning) many illustrious competitions, including the Adam International Cello Festival and Competition. He has performed at festivals around the world, playing works by beloved composers and even premiering new pieces. Hauser's career blew up beyond the classical world when he and friend Sulic uploaded a cover of Michael Jackson's "Smooth Criminal" to YouTube and it became a hit sensation.

Hauser Background

Born in Pula, Croatia, to a musical family — his mother was a percussionist — Hauser went on to study in Zagreb, London and eventually the United States. There, he studied under Bernard Greenhouse, the cellist for the Beaux Arts Trio, which was one of the most famous classical trios in the world. Hauser has since studied or performed with well-known musicians like Mstislav Rostropovich, Natalia Pavluskaya and Ralph Kirshbaum.

A few months after their YouTube fame, Hauser and fellow cellist Luka Sulic recorded their first album as 2Cellos. Containing music by bands like U2, Nine Inch Nails and Coldplay, the self-titled record reached No. 1 on the US Billboard Classical Albums chart and No. 85 on the Billboard Top 200. It reached No. 1 in their home country of Croatia. Going forward, their albums would continue to chart. Their sophomore effort, In2ition, featured music by Sting, Calvin Harris and Elton John. Later albums would contain more music from film scores such as Game of Thrones and Schindler's List. Tours in 2017 and 2019 took the duo around the world.

  • Concert was awesome, but wild second half was disappointing

I watch Hauser daily on streaming videos. I am mesmerized by him. He brings me peace. He is my therapy when life gets difficult. I could not wait to see him when he came to San Diego. The first half of the concert was beautiful and represented all of the things that I love about him. The second half was loud and crazy, which most of the audience adored. Still I saw many people start to leave at this point. I am still happy and grateful to have seen him. When I saw that he was to return to San Diego in May, I was surprised that he was returning so soon. I contemplated whether I wanted to see him again. I could not help but purchase two really great seats. I am hoping that, perhaps, this concert might be more subdued with romantic and classical music. I wonder if it will be the same concert since it is titled The Rebel Returns. I guess I will find out in May.

  • Exhilarating Performances

I became a fan of Hauser during the pandemic when I was home watching YouTube, looking for music I could use as accompaniment for a voice class I was taking. Hauser plays “Moon River”, which I sing. So I began to wonder who this cellist is. I watched every video, read anything I could about him, and listened to interviews even if they were translated to English. I became smitten by Hauser’s talent, humor and passionate renditions of classical and romantic music and the beautiful locations where his performances are taped. I have attended two Hauser concerts, one at the Hollywood Bowl in April, 2022, and the other one at the Orpheum Theatre in June, 2024, where I met and took a photo with him. Both concerts were riveting, his energy and enthusiasm for the music is over the top and the atmosphere with the audience was electric when he came into the aisles and the ladies went wild for him. Seeing him perform in person is incomparable to watching him on YouTube. It is beyond exciting, and when Hauser plays the last song, no one wants to leave, especially me. Hauser is such a virtuous and comedian at the same time. He brings the fun to his concerts. I hope to meet him again in May. I can’t believe he’s returning so soon. I would travel the world to watch him perform if I could afford it. He’s amazing!

I came across Hauser quite by chance. I thought ‘ who is Hauser?’. I watched him on YouTube and was smitten. What an incredible performer and artist!! I have since been to see him at the Royal Albert Hall in London in May 24 and it was so enjoyable. I can’t stop listening to him. He has such talent and energy and personality and I can’t wait to see him again.

My husband and I have been listening to Hauser for a while now. We went to his concert in Indainapolis, Indiana on June 11th 2024. We thought that he was absolutely amazing and cannot wait for him to come back to the US. We live near Cleveland , Ohio so it was a road trip for us and OHH SOO worth it. He was more than we expected. Would absolutely go again. Thank you Hauser for a wonderful concert. You were amazing. Hope to see you again.

  • Not what we expected

by Klaus on 7/6/24Fox Theater - Oakland - OaklandRating: 1 out of 5

We were very disappointed with the kind of concert this turned out to be. The concert with Hauser was not advertised as a Rock Concert, which this turned out to be. We have watched numerous videos and listened to numerous performances of the outstanding musician, Hauser, on line which we really enjoyed, and none of them were rock music. Mainly classic, or modern music with Hauser playing solo or with one other person on string instrument, and with that in mind we booked our tickets with great expectations. Very disappointed with the kind of music that was performed.

Hauser is the most entertaining cellist with the greatest sense of humor. His gives all his energy to the audience. I use every single opportunity to go to his shows.

I expected to hear some amazing music but did not expect to see such a full on energetic show. Without a doubt the Rebel tour is worth all the money.
